20 November is the day honoring the teachers, an occasion to express deep gratitude for knowledge seeders in Vietnam, what about other countries in the world?

 

Many countries around the world celebrate the Teachers' Day annually to honor the people who have day and night devoting to the training career. Each country celebrates this anniversary in different shades, depending on its history and its specific culture.

World Teachers’ Day

According to UNESCO, the day the whole world honoring teachers  was selected on October 5 every year ( held for the first time in 1994), with the name World Teachers’ Day. This day was also chosen by the International Education Federation (EI) as well as  the Global Union Federation representing the education sector around the world. Although there is World Teachers’ Day, each country celebrates Teachers’ Day on a day significant to their journey of education which is shown in different ways, drawing from the specific cultures and traditions.

 

China

On February 21, 1985, this country agreed on September 10 as National Teachers’ Day. Nowadays, many Chinese want to turn this day  to September 28, the birth of Confucius. As an country that has traditionally attached importance to the morality "be deferential to teacher and respected for moral", many generations of students, as well as grandparents and parents, visit Chinese temples worshipping the sages who devoted to build up the education and human philosophy in China, such as Lao Tzu, Confucius and Zhuangzi.

India

Teachers’ Day in India

 

In India, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on September 5 - coinciding with the birth of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of India. On this day, older students and students are responsible for teaching their next generation how to express gratitude to the teachers.

South Korea

Fresh flowers for teachers on Teachers’ Day

 

Korean Teacher's Day is May 15. Students will give their teachers carnations to express their love and reverence. In addition, as in Vietnam, former students often visit and give meaningful gifts to the old teachers. Most schools are off campus on this day.

Thailand

Teachers’ Day is especially respected in Thailand.

 

In Thailand, Teachers’ Day is held annually on January 16. On this day, all the schools have day- off and organize meeting as well as perform art performances to celebrate. Especially, many high schools also celebrate religious ceremonies, and monks will pray for all teachers and students present their teachers the flowers.

 

Russia

In Russia, Teachers’ Day is held on the first Sunday of October. But starting in 1994, the Russian Teachers’ Day was coincident with the International Teachers’ Day on October 5.

US

 

In the United States, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on Tuesday in the first week of May. The holiday is celebrated with a solemn and joyful ceremony. There are some activities held  in the school to honor the teachers.
 

Iran

 

In Iran, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on May 2. The reason for choosing this day is to commemorate the assassination of Iranian professor Ayatollah Morteza Motahhari. This professor is not only contributor to the education sector but also a well-known Iranian writer.

Turkey

In Turkey, Teachers’ Day is celebrated on November 24. Teaching is regarded as a sacred and unmatched profession in this country.
 

Japan  
Japan does not have Teachers’ Day. Surprisingly, in a big country like Japan, Teachers’ Day is not popular and not really interested. The Japanese assumed that Celebrating Teachers’ Day will stir up the envy among other occupations. Not only education but also medical profession, lawyer, engineer  are worthy of honor.

 

Poland


November 14 is considered as Teachers’ Day, also known as National Education Day in Poland. On this day in 1773, Polish King Stanisław Poniatowski established the National Education Commission.

Teachers’ Day around the world is indeed varied with lots of different celebrations. At PTI Education Training Group, November 20 is also a very special event.
